No this objectively happens and it's happened twice. Two of my friends died and they were completely forgotten in fact one wasn't found until they were already decomposing. I didn't forget them but I moved away because of my parents jobs.

Death is strange. At first, it's just like they went on a trip. You don't miss them yet. As the years pass, you begin to forget their face and their voice. You start to want to hear them again and listen to their stories. You want to hang out with them again, and the only solace is knowing that someday, if you both go to heaven, you will.
