I'm a FOSS coder. So I make no money even though I spend 8 hours a day coding. It's a travesty if you ask me.

Are there any societies that give grants to people like me? There are places where I can get money for equipment like new servers and shit, but that's not what I need. I literally need someone to just give me 12k a year so I can pay rent and eat and keep producing stuff that benefit the world.

Make a piece of software that's important enough that people want to donate to you.
An example off the top of my head is vaxry, the developer of hyprland and its ecosystem.

>Make a piece of software that's important enough that people want to donate to you.

99% of Internet users only care about what's entertaining
They wouldnt recognize importance if it slapped them in the face
Even Mastodon just died out
