Accepting cookies is necessary because HTTP is a stateless protocol. If you want to have any persistence between between sessions you either need to create an account on their side and autheticate every time (more bullshit tracking) or have a file stored on the client.

PHP session storage is all that's needed. Sure it's stored on the server but it can hardly be used to profile me. Nobody sells or buys that data.

Big tech was created to harvest data and the nefarious state that created them also created the legal environment to facilitate that data harvesting. It's not exactly complicated how it happened.

How do you know they are real people and not bots? It would be very profitable for these social media companies to use their vast tech and money to create bots to drive their own numbers up and we already know a lot of the traffic on these sites is just bots.
