In the old days as long as you did your job, didn't preach any blasphemy or heresy, and didn't commit any sexual sins. Nobody cared if you were "mentally ill" or judged you for it. Mental illness didn't exist as a concept. It was called being human. A great deal of discrimination against people who are perceived to be mentally ill is a result of the Industrial Revolution, capitalism, and indoctrinating young people to be attracted to this "extrovert ideal" man who acts like a chimp shit.

Mental illness was real and not accepted and they would probably try to exorcise you if you had a real mental illness, unless you were one of the guys lucky enough to convince everyone the voices you were hearing were the voices of God and not demons.
But I get the general sentiment anon. You could just be a regular dude back then. Modern humans are extremely over-socialized and expect everyone to be the perfect socially fluent extroverted ideal and if you even slightly vary from that expectation then they call you autistic.
