I'm not saying Marx is some savior, or even that his utopist plans will work (they don't), but the concepts laid forth in Das Kapital are very sound, and what he predicted would happen is happening. Soviet bread lines aren't the answer, but allowing corporations to basically shrug off the supreme court's decisions isn't going to lead to a utopia either.

Add to that the nature of work is about to radically change forever. What used to take a team of people a week to do is going to be done by an algorithm in a few seconds. Retail stores are already discussing how to cut most or all of their employees within 10 years. There's going to be more and more people with less and less to do. I mean we can address that now and plan for the low-work world that's coming or simply continue on this path and let the hordes of unemployed people jump on whatever ideology appeals to them in their desperate frenzy and hope that it's good (it won't be).

I don't think the idea of giving everybody the same pay is a good idea, it seems like it would disincentivize hard work. A surgeon should get more than a retail worker. On the other hand I agree with his emphasis on the struggle of the worker vs the greedy profit seeking jew. I believe in a safety net, taxes, basic standard of living, better pay and conditions for the average worker vs executives and the management class. I'm not entirely sold on workers owning the means of production type thing but I'd experiment with workers coops to see how successful they could be and what can be learned. I think most of these things can be achieved in the normal system, I guess I'm a socialist.

Here's how I would change our system:
1/ No government bailouts. No more "too big to fail" bullshit. If a big bank fails, the state should take full control of it, I'm talking 100% nationalization of the failed bank, giving people their money back, then closing the bank permanently.
2/ No government contracts for private companies. This shit encourages corruption. If the government needs a service it should do it by itself.
3/ No trickle down bullshit. No tax breaks for the rich. No tax breaks for companies. If they don't have a salary then the government should tax their financial assets. No escape.
4/ No unfair advantage for cheap goods and services produced abroad. All imports should submit to the same rules as local goods and services, and that includes worker rights.
5/ Parliamentary republic. No need for a president.
6/ No "first-past-the-post" bullshit, each political party should get power relative to its voter base.
