As someone who has spent 6 years in SEA all I'm gonna say is be extremely careful. Things aren't like the west and you can quickly find yourself in a very dangerous situation. I've witnessed so many foreigners get absolutely cleaned mentally and financially, some even get murdered. Never take out life insurance for example. Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines are especially dangerous.
