And you sure as hell won't wait 16 years till the menarche (first menstruation age used to be higher especially when food isnt abundant) when you could just make more babies of your own. Women can always be imported, which is what we can observe happened during that time. Male dna stayed close to the tribe, female dna could come from far and wide.

Im just saying that this practice went away when civilization hit, though at that point it would be the women themselves killing their kids. Often you'd prefer a son since a daughter would be more fragile to raise, and more costly if you lived in a dowry culture instead of a brideprice culture.

There are more explanations but mostly these tribes simply imported them, rare instances where they sent off the men to live with another tribe. Women married into the family of their husbands afterall. And women are just more of a risk in rough times. A tribe can survive winter with majority men but not the other way around.
