I've extensively studied culture between 1945-1980:
WW1, WW2 and silent generations were mildly annoyed by hippies but didn't really hate them, in fact they often tried to subvert it for their own ends (like hippie-ifying churches and schools).
What they did hated was the "freak" subculture (what we would call "woke activists" today), stuff like progressive labor party, 2nd wave feminists, etc.
