Commodities aren't simply material ones. The jobless deadbeat might be hot, so the commodity he offers is his attractiveness.

I agree with you that human relations shouldn't be this way but we can argue about morality until the cows come home. What I really care about is the way things are, and I think it's very clear that humans, especially women, view everything in a transactional sense and the moment someone offers her a better value proposition, she will abandon you. You don't ask a fork or a hammer its opinions on anything or attach any value to it beyond how useful it is and when you get a better one, you throw the other away.
