Doesn't matter because the other characters don't respond to them so it still makes for extremely unnatural conversations.
The only people who actually enjoy this indeed are socially inept virgins for whom it somehow doesn't register how awkward these conversations flow as a consequence of well... someone not saying a thing.

Portal 2 was the only game that did it right because it's actually funny there and realistic how Wheatley takes note of the fact that Chell doesn't speak and is dead uncomfortable with it and is just awkwardly blabbering alone to fill the silence and trying to get Chell to respond who refuses to but all the other games are like
