On paper, it's to protect muh kids, but in reality it's to censor "wrong" political opinions. More levers for people in power to use to control narratives. Truthfully, the proliferation of social media (especially short form content) has permanently, irreversibly damaged the brains of billions of people worldwide, but the government never cared about that, or else they would have banned TikTok as soon as it became available.

normies will not parent their kids, it's been proven time and time again. Governments are using this an excuse to crack down and remove anonymity. They never cared about the children it was always about that.

Regulations arise when disruptive innovation is not expected to be profitable in order to generate control and consensus. It happens in all human ventures. For example the structure of phones into basic and flagship, internet into basic and premium, fast food combos, laws about property, airline travel, etc. Economics and politics are about leeches cordoning off value.

I hate this argument. Even vigilant parents can't stop their kids from looking at porn or getting groomed unless they just totally lockdown the internet and don't let their kids access it. Which is not exactly possible anymore because everyone is so reliant on it as they are cars and stuff. It seeps through even through websites that aren't pornographic, children are at risk literally everywhere online its like leaving your kid on the side of an interstate highway its never going to go well. Upwards of 90% of EVERYONE at this point has been exposed to porn and you can't just blame it all on their parents. There are some forces that are in fact greater than the individual and need legislation to protect against.

That being said this legislation is obviously being enacted for nefarious reasons and "protecting the kids" is just an excuse because in 2025 there is no western government that gives a shit about the children.

isn't that only for monetization because advertisers think those words are icky to to their products? If you're not monetizing a channel you can still use the regular words.

I don't use an account for yt and just remember the channels I like to check in on them regularly and most of the time any new videos show up in my recommended list anyway.

That's still so fuckin stupid, I see beer commercials as ads on youtube amongst other things so why should the language or content be rated like TV-7.
You've got all these crime shows on TV showing blood and dead bodies and not using censored coded language like "unalived" and yet they still have 7 minutes of commercials during a half hour time slot.

People should be allowed to monetize their videos without censoring half the English language. Maybe censor like 2 or 3 words at most.

Think of the children has always been the best excuse for every erosion of rights. Half of people don't have or like kids, even their own, though so don't know if it will work this time.
Turning the internet into television again would be really convenient. I do agree that kids shouldn't have access to porn or to pollute adult places with their antics, but the method to prevent that is to punish the parents that don't keep a handle on their kids. Lock down the ipad and put the computer in the living room.

Now that the problem has spread beyond tiktok, I don't hear about it getting banned anymore. Now it's in Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. So the plan is to put the entire internet under lockdown and make it so that you need your internet vaccine passport.
