any other 20+ year old anons here who don't have a drivers license? I've been in the process of getting mine for the past 3 years (I've already done all of the written bullshit) but everytime my in-person driving test approaches my mom forces me to reschedule because I am "still not ready".

she'll let me drive her to wherever she needs to go every few days, so she has seen firsthand that I'm perfectly fine driving on public roads. It's just the weird stuff they test you on like parallel parking that she doesn't let me practice, then she doesn't let me do the test cuz I'm inexperienced in these things.

Are you in a state or country where parallel parking is on the test? In Florida they didn't make me do it. I only had to do a 3 point turn which was easy.
But anyways if it is, if it matters to you then you should press her to teach you or something. If it doesn't matter to you that much then make your move I guess.

Your mother is overstepping your boundary. You need to schedule your own appointment and take your driving test. You're allowing her to step over that boundary. I got my driving license at 21 and the test itself wasn't difficult. The test was on a computer and the questions were 20 to 30 questions of common sense. The driving portion was driving at 10 mph, doing a few turns, signaling, and driving a few blocks before heading back to the dmv.

I live in ontario and they make you do things like 3 point turns, parallel parking, backing up into a parking space, etc. From what I've heard they're really strict on these types of things and will fail you if you make a small mistake.

How old is you? Do you have a job? Have you taken driving lessons? The dmv is notoriously slow but they'll fit you in their schedule if they have the time available. Getting your license is 85 percent in your head. The questions on the test are to see if you're retarded and the driving portion is if you can not drive like an asshole with the instructor in the car. It isn't studying to design a laser or to be a spy

I'm 34. As a single retard who lives with his parents in the middle of a city, I don't need a car.
I sometimes think about maybe getting a driver's license but I don't trust myself to drive. I'm clumsy and retarded, I could very easily kill someone by accident. And I've been hit by a car and injured badly before so it's not some unimaginable hypothetical scenario.

Then do it. If you fail then I think you get two more tries for free. So you get 3 attempts or 2, you'd have to check your state's dmv and local dmv. Schedule your appointment, if your mom gives you back talk then french kiss her and tell her she's being silly.

I have a license but I try to keep driving to a minimum because I'm a retard with no spatial awareness. Every time I'm behind the wheel I can't help but imagine all the possible scenarios that I can fuck up.

I'm in my 30s and I don't have one but I did have a driver's permit. I bought a clunker and was driving that shit with no insurance like a retard. Thankfully never had any accidents or issues because I was a very safe driver...ended up selling the car later on. It was a valuable lesson though that I definitely don't need a car as I live in a major city with one of the best public transportation systems. I don't mind taking the bus but I absolutely fucking hate taking the train.

You might want to have a talk with your mom, if you can. Ask when she thinks you'll be ready, or what skills she would want you to have before taking the test. It might be a driving thing, might be a social skills thing.

I'm 31 and I only have my written license. I haven't been behind the wheel in a car in 10 years. I live in a big city where I just use public transport.
I plan on resigning from my job, taking three months off, and finally getting it done sometime next year if I get accepted for a new job beginning July 2026.

i didn't get one until i was 22. but i didn't need to up until then as previously i had lived in an urban environment with all the necessities of my existence within walking distance and readily accessible buses and trains for longer journeys. i got a license as soon as my family moved to the suburbs. it's pretty awful without one here. although i see a lot more people getting around on e-bikes and mopeds these days.
