Robots on the Robot Board
>Be oldfren
>Been threads from the start full of people saying who does and doesn't belong here
>Watch a whole era of people equivocating over what is and isn't a "robot"
>Board gets cited in larger discourse about incels while that community was always implicitly here, even before the term became mainstream
>Still see fellow oldfrens refer to this place as new/b/ which was a common critique at the time
>Now nobody even talks about cyborgs and such
What does it mean to you and your sense of identity to post here Anons?
What does it mean to be a robot? Does that term, in the context of this board, even mean anything to you? Did it ever?
I have my own ideas about what this board has & should stand for, but first, I'm curious what today's posters think.

not that much, nowadays it's just another place to doom scroll when i've got nothing to do. it's not much different than other places, tho older habits die hard
>What does it mean to be a robot?
weird someone who fails pretty miserably to integrate with the rest of society
>t. technically electionfag

I've been on this site for almost 20 years. It's just habit. I don't identify with this place, but then I don't identify with anything other than myself.

I used to think it was a more general shut-in/neet/loser identity but that's been diluted so far now that it doesn't seem to matter. The argument over who is or isn't a robot has been retarded though imo. I preferred how this board was a decade ago but things just change. Nothing to do about it. I'm only here because there's nowhere else to go.

Amazing. Sure takes me back, is 9gag even still a thing? If they only knew how half their memes even started.

Fuck I felt it in my soul reading that.

This is pretty much what I was getting at. Board culture has always been for the terminally online weirdos to belong in when they never did irl. I would argue that there's some truth in calling it new /b/ just because the point of sifting through all the shitposts and porn on /b/ was always that you caught the occasional glimpse of real human connection through it all.
The only real defining feature of /r9k/ was only ever supposed to be that the bot would filter out "unoriginal" posts, ideally fostering more of that authentic connection. There's definitely been some kind of community here, but whether it's ever had more direction than "do more than spam shitposts" is up for debate.

yeah.

I respect that, always tried to do something similar.

That's exactly what I'm getting at. Welcome to the thread Anon.
>I preferred how this board was a decade ago
What about it did you prefer? There's always been a lot of shit, robot9000 notwithstanding.

I think mostly it's just I was at a different phase of my life and more willing to embrace a nihilistic outlook. As I get older I begin to worry more about my future and realize how little progress I've made. At the same time, I think there was more energy back then. The board was faster and more varied, the tripfags were more interesting and generated fun drama, there was more OC, and there was less focus on politics.
A lot of posts here now are also drawing from other sites and groups, the incel/blackpill/woman hate/trans stuff is all pulling from Twitter and blogs. It feels less natural to the board. In the past, that stuff was at least not copypasted from a substack or whatever. The mainstreaming of this site really changed the way the board worked. I miss when the retardation and insanity was endemic to here rather than pandemic on the internet. I miss when it seemed like people were occasionally having fun here instead of just trying to demoralize everyone in their vicinity. Not that this was ever a "nice" place.

Sadly enough it were memes like these which got me here lmao
>Sure takes me back, is 9gag even still a thing
Their site still exists
>Fuck I felt it in my soul reading that
Funny enough i also tried tiktok, but couldn't get the algorithm right so it only showed me ai slop and random local stuff. Also the (semi) instant replies here are more addicting

I mean we were never totally independent of the rest of the internet here, but I absolutely feel what you're saying. All those groups that get shit on so much have a lot more in common with your average loner/weirdo than not, and always have.

We've always had more to gain from coming together, and I think that subconscious understanding has always been part of what brings us here. But at the same time, misery has always loved company. And that beginner's nihilism will always try to drag you down with it.

It do, in fact, be like that lmao

I actively chose not to load that page when I typed that lol.
>i also tried tiktok
I still doomscroll too much on my IG, but the algorithms are very clearly painting me into my comfy lil' corner there. At least here I can still interact directly with ideas I might not like.
