The core of Gen-z reached 10y between 2010-2015, which is when woke took over and the old media still had a lot of power, so zoomers were inundated with leftist propaganda with no counter programming.
Gen-A has unlimited access to tons of anti-left rabble rousers and its considered "lame" to be woke, in fact its gotten so bad that institutions are doing blanket "anti-radicalization" programs but it's having no effect.

The mainstream was still very leftist but 2014 - 2018 was the height of the alt-right, which dominated this site and which was such an issue that it led to censorship across every major platform. There absolutely was counter programming around the time when most of gen z were teens. Did you forget gamergate or the anti-feminist fad for a while?

The major difference is that back then, even under trump, there was censorship against the far-right. This time around the far-right is being allowed to spread. To say the alt-right had no impact on young people just isn't true, but it was limited because of the greater degree of censorship.

As you can see from the image and the other sources, far-right attitudes peaked when the alt-right was as its height before censorship killed it. It's rising again as you can also see because the right wing is making a comeback as censorship is no longer an issue.

The alt right undoubtedly had a great impact, and most sources agree that, at that time (2015 - 2018), the right wing grew. Again, the rolling back of censorship is why the far right is now growing again.
