The vast majority of anime was made before the isekai trend took off in recent years. Go watch some terrible space opera from the 80s.

There are decades of animes. There is no reason for you to watch the new stuff instead of just sticking to the old stuff.

It's just easier to write a fantasy story where the MC is relatable to normal people and gives an excuse to spoonfed information about the world to both the character and the audience.

isekai can be really interesting but is usually just lazy

Dude life is only depressing for like very few people. Like 48 percent of the population is female and they literally almost all have sex with some guy. We here on r9k are some of the unluckiest youll find. So in a room of 1000 people. If you ranked their quality of life. An average robot is somewhere in the bottom 50. That sounds true right? Just by estimating, yeah thats probably true. But it kinda matters a lot how their lives end, too. Because lots of people seem to die really wrong lol. You dont wanna die like lots of people do.

Isekai anime are popular because it sells. The market provides whatever is in demand so if there's a lot of SLOP floating around it is because the consumer craves SLOP.
