anybody into martial arts?
i had my first jiu jitsu class. the class was at 8 in the morning so it was only me, the instructor, and one other student. it was really fun. im so excited to do more.

I've always wanted to do it, but I'm fat as fuck. That doesn't stop people like Joey Diaz but I'm just scared of violence in general

you're literally using too much of your physical strenght to have enough blood to go to your penis, honestly the more dangerous thing id bet is enjoying the feeling of getting choked out and becoming an auto erotic asphyxiation guy. it's really just not a concern though.

I did wrestling in HS, believe me it's way more common than you think it is. Even if you're not turned ok, stimulating your cock will sometimes give you a woody. Nobody really minds it cause it's natural.

you can't get in shape without exercising. i dont think anyone will mind that you're fat as long as you dont stink

Like the other guy said it does happen but it ain't no thang really. Everyone knows it's chill. What was worse for me was doing mixed jiujitsu classes and rolling with this sweaty big tit mom bod girl, I kept faltering on putting different submissions on her or maneuvering because my hands inevitably ended up sinking into her soft tits.

Ah, another one of us begins his journey towards strength! Welcome aboard bro.
Jiu jitsu rocks, i've been doing it for a few years.
The only thing i think you should keep in mind is that it won't prepare you for the first half of a fight, every fight starts standing and if you can't deal with punches then you are going to get your goose cooked. Even royce gracie in UFC 1 knew how to deal with strikes, it's essential. I'd say do some boxing/muay thai first (or just whenever, really.) and once you're comfortable with dealing with punches, go all in on jiu jitsu. Last thing you want is to get your ego crushed by some meat head who is less skilled than you haha.
You got any questions? I'll keep my eye on this thread for a while.

i'm not really doing it to fight people im just doing it to satiate my obsession with techniques. it's really fun to try to learn something and then execute it when it's being made difficult to do. i started judo in college but then i graduated right after so im still fresh but know a tiny amount about groundwork.
>I'd say do some boxing/muay thai first (or just whenever, really.)
i would but theres no place for that where i live. that's good advice though, thanks.
>You got any questions?
yeah. i hit the mat in a funny way and one of my toes feels funky. it doesnt hurt much, just a little sore when i bend it upward. is there a way to protect myself from injuring it in the future when i just tweak something small like that

I can't imagine telling someone, after their first BJJ class, that they're not good at fighting.

Yeah, that's kind of the point of trying something new. I didn't try mixing up martial arts until I was a purple belt. I didn't try judo until brown belt.

I think the important things to do at white belt are

>See if you even like the stupid fucking ground karate
>Learn how to fit BJJ into your schedule
>Proper hygiene+laundry+nail length+tying your belt

I started because I wanted the complex fighting like in Naruto and now I'm a 4 stripe brown belt. All the other people with good motivations and reasons and reasonable ideas of how to develop are gone (except for like 1 or 2 other guys)

I do my best to not stink. Deodorant, powder on the balls. When I get really sweaty that might be a problem though

im very aware of how terrible i am, dont worry.
thank you. i'll take that advice to heart. the laundrys gonna be a little silly cause its gi on monday thursday and no gi on the other days.
>nail length
do you have any advice to keep your nails? i think my nails are wear or something cause i keep tearing them and one pulled off the fingertip at the corner today. is there like a special way to keep it from breaking?
>I started because I wanted the complex fighting like in Naruto and now I'm a 4 stripe brown belt. All the other people with good motivations and reasons and reasonable ideas of how to develop are gone
autism is really a superpower i guess. and yeah narutos awesome i like it too hence the orochimaru op.

I just trim weekly or whenever I can see the white of the nail. If your nails keep tearing or something that sounds like a nutrient deficiency or you're trying to dig your nails into their gi. They shouldn't be breaking.

BJJ doesn't get rid of any of the weirdness. One of my secret favorite parts is that all the people who would be making fun of my nerdy predisposition are instead at the mercy of whatever moves I want to work on. Like a smooth talking sales exec who I hear groan under my kesa gatame - I'll squeeze it harder so he taps.

good for you bud, i've been training BJJ since last year and even when you lose it's fun, sadly i lost a lot of motivation and stopped training a couple months ago, i really want to train again but fuck if i don't feel wiped the day after, plus even after a year i'm still shit at it and lose to people that have been training for less time than me, i don't know if that's normal or if i'm just naturally bad at fighting.

Martial arts are fun and empowering but I haven't found an academy that I liked

All of them are cardio mills and gatekeep knowledge

yeah man, people wrap their toes and fingers all the time when they're injured to avoid reinjuring.
>>82228473
I get where you're coming from entirely man, i've been struggling to stay training too. Even if you're untalented though, you can catch up to people, and even if you don't, isn't it better to be better than you would be if you hadn't trained? Also, if it helps, you don't gotta go crazy hard. Maybe you don't even have to roll, or maybe you could roll just once, there's no rules man, whatever gets you in the gym and then back the next day. Also stretch and eat enough protein lolz

as for the nails ill maybe put a polish on to make the ones i already have stronger and then supplement keratin and biotin i suppose? ty.
>>82228473
thank you. i hope you start training again. even if you aren't talented, your skill will shine more and more as you practice.

kung fu is really cool, i dont think you're a fool for enjoying it. its been clowned on by mma people so much that i think it circled back to being underrated as a fighting style because its still pretty cool.

what do you use to wrap?

I did a bit of boxing and it was pretty fun.
I'll be doing thai boxing for my required PE in uni and I'm a bit nervous but looking forward to it still.

Yeah I started boxing at a local amateur competition gym when I was 14. Compete from 16-19 and then injured myself and decided I would stop competing (because I started uni and also cause the injury). I am 25 now, I continued training regularly just recreationally from 19-23 but have been inconsistent in my participation for the past 2 years. I do miss it but it is hard to find the time now. I did not get to compete a lot because I was raised in poverty, so the only time I could compete in tournaments was when my gym found a way to sponsor me. I am from a fairly small city and so we never hosted events, I would always have to travel to compete. I am just fortunate I got to compete at all, I have an undefeated record of 16-0.

My anxiety and lack of car stop me from getting into martial arts but I hope to get a car and I'll just enjoy the anxiety of going because I hate myself and part of the reason I want to get into martial arts is so people can hit me.

I had some success working with a PT for a knee injury, got it back to like 90% of how it was before I injured it but I also have a fucked up lower back and nothing I've tried helps with that at all.

One person I knew said ninjitsu made him feel like a power ranger. How many things make you feel like a power ranger? I've done more for less.

There are arts that help you meditate, others that help you stretch, and others still that have a small group of friends you can do it with. There are some that are sports without fighting and there are some that teach discipline and show you progress. Some of them are good cardio. Some of them help you actually LARP. Some of them are LARP.

There are plenty of reasons to do martial arts besides the specific rule sets of mixed martial arts. There are plenty of reasons to not want to do MMA. There are plenty of reasons to not bother with self defense. You can just live your life
