The guys women "have fun with before settling down" are the same kind of guys they would love to settle down with, once it's something they start to desire. But most of them can't get with such men for long term relationships. They have easy sexual access to a lot of women, and men in general have no standards for casual sex, so they have no reason to settle down. Once they do start desiring it, they have very attractive women available to them. Let's not pretend that being the "settle down" guy is any way superior than being the "hook up" guy. The former simply means you're not attractive enough to be the latter, so you have to bring more to the table for sexual access, chiefly commitment.
