There are two main factions in the current iteration of the Sudanese civil war.
>The RSF (rapid support forces): genocidal arab-supremacists backed by the UAE and Israel which have committed actual genocide in Darfur
>The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) which is the legitimate and internationally recognized Sudanese government based out of the capital of Khartoum, they are backed mainly by Turkey but also Iran.
This is a very easy conflict to solve if you aren't western brainrotted to hell, let the actual government take back control from the terrorists and stop allowing the UAE and Israel to smuggle them supplies through Chad and Libya.

Sudan was another victim of the arab "spring" in that Sudan's longstanding (stable) dictatorship under Omar al-Bashir was replaced with a civilian government that quickly got couped and ended in a civil war. I'm not a fan of military juntas, but like you said, it's a matter of deciding if you'd rather live in Syria under famous headchopper Jewlani or in Egypt under the secular but brutal military government of Fatah el-Sisi. Neither's ideal but there's clearly a better option.

The correct thing to do is create an international coalition and occupy them while building up a stable government but there's no political will to do that so it will never happen. Kosovo, Germany, Japan, Bosnia, East Timur, Sierra Leone? The problem with Iraq and Afghanistan was that the neocons were in charge. Putting boots on the ground and stabilizing a region while giving significant power and deference to local decisions can work just fine. In Iraq we sent the entire Iraqi military home jobless and got an insurgency. In Afghanistan we cede the countryside without fight and then ceded the country without supporting the government we were attempting to empower. Afghanistan also had no national identity prior to occupation which hurt our ability to do anything. Iraq is actually functional at the moment so it's hard to call that a complete failure.

Equipment, the ports have to be constantly dredged to ensure enough depth for the container ships. It's just the completely wrong geography for it. Europe and the US are full of well behaved natural harbors that require significantly less maintenance.
