Yup. I knew about the suit issues for years, but Weller's laying pipe did surprise me.
It took six and a half hours to apply the 'unmasked' make-up. Interesting to hear they almost had another mutiny when filming the final scene, as Weller's make-up had begun to break down, while Verhoeven was shooting every other part of the scene. It did look a bit too creased when he said that epic final line of the film.
Sadly, not as much behind the scenes detail is available for RoboCop 2. Though it had it's issues, it was watchable and was Weller's only other time in the part, and the film was cut to bits. It's also amazing to hear that by that film, suiting up only took ten minutes. I wish I would hear Weller's thoughts on it in retrospect. Just a shame that RoboCop was marketed to kids so much, and the franchise crashed and burned by turning it into a cartoon.
