Doesn't exist unless you're putting other down. Tryhard alone is just a dumb word. Trying hard is a good thing. Guitar is cool, you should go for it.

I'd like to practice every day until I reach a level where I can make my own music, but I understand all the artists out there started studying music since they were kids and it's unlikely I'll ever reach a level I'm satisfied with, which greatly depresses me.

It's never too late, it's not like you have to be young to play the guitar >I'm scared of coming off too tryhard
To the teacher? I promise you they won't care how old you are

you dont even need lessons man youtube is actually an infinite resource of guitar material, just learn and get good at reading tablature and use songsterr to find tabs for almost any song and bam bro. thats how i started 7 years ago. dont look at it like an obligation dont force yourself just do it for fun and it will be less taxing and frustrating

Mostly to the other people who might be around, like in >>82259140 >>82259235
I intend to use YouTube to supplement my studies but it would help to have some guidance.

I inherited an old ass guitar, like way older than me, from my grandpa that I loved and was super close to. He used to play it all the time at night and write songs. Ive been wanting to learn it for a while now but I know I need to tune it for starters and I know I dont have the fingers to blast them against strings while I learn it too. I dont know how guitar players get their fingers used to getting flayed against what looks like wires and fishing lines for hours on end.

Also classical or nylon stringed guitars are much easier on the fingers and they have wider spacing of the strings so it might be easier for a beginner. Electric is also easier starting out definitely. If you start on acoustic your fingers will hurt for the first couple months but youll get calluses.
Get a cheap/secondhand guitar, don't buy any gear except maybe a capo and strap. Picks you can get for free from any store.
Start with youtube, figure out your cowboy chords, look up tabs of simple songs.
Only bother with classes once you've hit a wall. Ask them to identify any bad habits you have when playing, and if by then you've figured out what style you like you can look for someone who plays the same.

it's never too late to start learning or to take lessons.
there was a professional guitarist, i forgot who, but he used to always go to lessons in every city his band would play in because every guitar teacher has at least one thing to teach you, no matter how good you get there's always more to learn, and it doesn't matter how old you are, you can go to lessons and no one will judge you.
