So anyway I did a reverse image search and it turns out this is Josh Saunders, who had a Youtube channel called KingCobraJFS. The first video I saw about him wasn't from his channel, it was a reupload of a video his dad made to address the rumours. The poor guy breaks down crying when he talks about how he'd gone to his son's house to take him to the hospital and found him already dead. Really heartbreaking to see, and I certainly can't say anything bad about KingCobra after watching that.

The strange thing is that looking at the KingCobraJFS channel you see he'd been vlogging for 8 years, and most of the videos he's just ranting about something while drinking weird alcoholic "drink combos" and the average viewcount is around 5K views. His most popular video is a 36 second clip from 8 years ago called "Magic cigerette trick" which got 220K views.

I watched about half of that and I sort of get it now, it certainly explains why a channel like Bite Size Cobra Vids showing edited clips got more views than KingCobraJFS, and why documentaries about the guy get more views than he ever did.

The problem with KingCobraJFS is that his videos are boring. It's like watching a five minute Beavis & Butthead cartoon stretched out into multiple hour-long episodes filmed in a gritty live-action cinema verite style with no punchline. It's morbidly fascinating for a few minutes, but only the most obsessed voyeur could sit through much of that.

It's precisely because of how morbidly fascinating he was as a character that make edited highlights of his content so popular. They cut out the filler and present the strange sagas of him with his creepy friends and weird girlfriends. A key takeaway is that his very existence demolishes the blackpill myth that "women only want Chad". This guy had multiple girlfriends and even managed to cheat on them.

On top of all of that, Josh himself is a relatable, sympathetic character. Despite his flaws, he seems like a genuinely good-natured person who is struggling with life. When you watch the videos you hope things get better for him but now we know Spoiler Alert: it didn't. RIP Josh Saunders.
