I also think racism is unmaritocratic, but I also think that giving people special protections is unmaritocratic. We shouldn't be racist and the N-word should be allowed.
Right now, people don't like the N-word because it's hateful. I'd much rather people not like the N-word because it's stupid, and you've failed the moment you decided that an entire race all act the same.
There should be no race, no gender, no sexual orientations, no political parties, no tribes, just merit. Sadly, that world is unrealistic since, inevidably, the tests to judge merit get corrupted. If the world were like chess or if we could see people's stats like in a video game, then things would be much easier.
I also do not fully subscribe to a meritocracy since higharchy isn't always needed. People need not have things denied to them simply because they are incompetent when there are plenty of reasources to spare. What good is a meritocracy when there's no use for merit and we've reached success? When merit becomes obsolite, why demand from the masses to continue to submit, sacrifice to, and praise the skillful?
It could be argued that nature was the best way to live, better than what we have now, and higharchy and society and merit came only to ruin it.
