I mean modern days. I thought it was more of an ubiquitous drink. You know, you grow up in a smol irrelevant place, but still assume your life is the default.

I think I only ever ate so much of them because my granny is an expert gardener. She would grow basically anything she could. Even grapes in our climate. She would find some new species of turnip and decide how revolutionary healthy it is and force me to gnaw on her big beatiful radishes when they were in season. Of course, there was plenty of cherries and strawberries and an absolutely yuge blackcurrant bush as reward. Red delicious apple tree for munching and Antonov apples for juice, a secret garden of pears, soem cherries that you need to beat the birds to, an ever expanding raspberry colony, recurrants for jam on the far corner of the yard, goosberries with spiny branches to harvest as punsihment, a hazelnut tree on the roadside, some walnuts somewhere somehow that I never even knew existed, stepppe olives that look so pretty, but never even knew were edible and so on....

Though I only discovered the superior American blueberry later when we moved and got some new trees of our own. Sum fancy bushes to flex on all the other bakas who made their life in the capitalist system. Picking big blue berries while baka neighbor Hollywood certified Golden Retriever visits to get my attention... Bakas just wanted to live in the suburbs and send their kids to soccer practice back then sigh...

Me when finding out the common salade I always ate as kid is called ''Israeli salade.'' Me whin finding out the regular lactofermented pickles granny makes are called ''kosher pickles.'' Americans are truly sick in the head.

I like sour. Cranberries are a bit too much though, I ate a bunch once and they made my gums and cheeks hurt for days. I dunno why I don't like blackcurrants, it's not the sourness, there's just some weird subtle flavor to them that puts me off. Blackcurrant juice is usually nice though.

Well, do you know the names of your great grandparents? My home replaced Russian with English in pretty a single generation. Belgian waffles are pretty bussin. Very crunchy and lots of space for toppings. Early 2000s were a nice time cause my mom having grown up in a system where a single porcelain set was her greatest treasure and gedding exposed to fancy bakas through her job was an early adopter of some stuff you'd be silly to consider fancy now.
