I believe an argument can be made for physical discipline as Sean Connery explained but it should never be with a closed fist and should never be with full strength either. A man should never set out to inflict potentially permanent harm on his wife, whom he claims to love, in the form of teeth getting knocked out, brain damage, eye damage, etc. Any alternative to physical discipline should also be attempted before physical discipline is used. Once you have tried everything else, the circumstances must also be considered. Is this just a wife being a little petty or a cheating woman asking to be forgiven and taken back? Is this a woman who had a bad day or is habitually belligerent and threatens to incur the wrath of strangers upon you if she gets into trouble and you have to defend her?
Not as many men as I would hope are responsible enough to have ownership over their wife. There are many bad men that create damaged goods and unnecessarily beat their wives to relieve personal anger. This is not the way.
