Seriously, the amount of happy ending bullshit is starting to get annoying, this shit purely lives by the visual designs of the characters it seems and the fanbase for the most part also has very little to say about it except how much they want to have sex with the characters. If you go to some Star Trek board everyone has thoughtful posts about the plot instead. It's not even purely the foreign fans. Japanese views on Japanese online bookstores are also purely talking about "Ohh, the art is so pretty and I really like how hot the male lead is" with each of them basically regurgitating that and nothing more, even about titles with a fairly decent plot.

Sure, there are also many magazines that aren't that high on all the escapism and wish fulfillment but honestly the plots with some noted exceptions just aren't that great because they're only written by a single person most of the time but I think a big issue is also that I need to get in like 4-5 hours of this shit every day in order to actually progress so I end up consuming a lot of crap I would've never ever touched weren't I learning Japanese, and the worst thing is that I end up paying for it because Japan has next to no piracy scene.

Yes, this is one of my ways I interact with the fanbase of Japanese shit and why I think the fanbase is retarded.

Note that /a/ is actually better than most Reddit subs. On /a/ like 50% of posts on plot-based titles are about the plot and some say some interesting things and the other 50% is about fucking the character. If you go to r/manga or r/shoujo 99% is just about sex appeal of the characters.

Tumblr is better than either for original opinions but it's a zero interaction place where everyone just blogs into a void of likes and reblogs but no responses.

There are so many holes and it's all ancient. I assume this is only uploaded months after it comes out at best and then it still has holes. To be clear, it's at issue 32 or something of 2025 now because it's a weekly magazine and there are about 52 issues each year. So yeah you might as well treat it as a sample.

Some of the really popular magazines are maybe on there but that's about it.

Yeah, obviously exceptions exist and I do like that Japan likes some really fucked up and Kafkaesque stories but even those are often plagued by the desire for a happy ending. Concept wise that's really cool an all the blood and gore is nice too and something like this really only comes out of Japan but Japanese stuff lives too much by its concept I feel and the actual plot is just so lukewarm and not that interesting. It's all concept with no plan.

There is actually no reason to engage with fandoms at all. There is no garantuee that you will enjoy the media more or that you will get some special insight. I like lots of different things and I have never interacted with any of the fandoms. My life is better this way.

Yeah, I just buy them, it's also far cheaper than 275 yen in practice because I only buy new "points" when there's some discount offer and on top of that I use the subscription service of automatically buying each new volume when it comes out which makes it cost 90% of the original price.

I mean this is actually a magazine I at least somewhat enjoy but certianly not enough to consume this much of every day and yet that's what I do. One needs to read a lot of Japanese to get better. Truth be told, 4-5 hours of fiction per day just gets tiring to begin with no matter how good.
