Eh....it kinda fell apart more so when smartphones really took off around 2011-2012. That's when the normies flooded into places like 4chan. Literally no one had an Iphone in 07'; flip phones were still in use.

I didn't experience that because I went an art college at that time, there weren't any normies around except for maybe those in the Photography major. There was a girl that I chilled with on the regular who was deep into mecha and things of that nature.
