Why do humans waste so much energy competing with each other? Sports, the workplace, politics, the economy, war. Why is competition so common to us when it's obviously self destructive?

OP, war was always here. Before man war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting the ultimate practitioner. As well ask men what they think of stone. Competition is an ethereal state of being so thoroughly in existence, it is pointless to point out that it sucks. Want to opt out? OK looks like I won by default. I cope by trying to turn goals into daily habits. Idk if you will be the fastest runner, but you could set a basic goal to do running exercises half an hour every day. Eventually you will get there.
