It's very nice for foreigners, at least in Beijing. They have an interesting system where most people can't drive depending on the day based on their license plate to reduce traffic. There are rings of the city, I lived in the 5th ring which was very suburban. I lived in a gated community but its right next to a lot of markets vendors and small restaurants. The school I went to was "international" but it was mostly Chinese people lol. I loved living there, even during covid. It's a very safe city as long as you aren't being retarded (joking about the great leap forward etc.). What really surprised me is that somehow the school got permission from the government to have some people holding taiwanese flags during a celebration we had called International Day. The school also had a government approved VPN for the entire network, and almost everyone had VPNs, the government didn't care much. But there were some times like the date the tiananmen square massacre, serious political events, and some more stuff that I can't remember right now. VPNs would stop working, so it's clear that the government had the power but just didn't bother most of the time.
To conclude this absolute ramble, yeah it was really fun. Great place to live as long as you're white, like most Asian countries lol.
