My dog died yesterday.
She was a 14 year old Jack Russell terrier.

If you cannot accept or get sad about death, then don't have more pets.

I found the hardest part was the habits formed with little animals, like looking around your feet to make you don't kick them or trip over them. Little things like that hurt the most because they became involuntary and will happen for a while. It's rough man, and 14 years is a long time. You'll get through it but it sucks.

Totally agree. It's sad when you realize the animal just isn't there anymore. But this will eventually cristalize into good memories that one would like to carry to the rest of the life. This is enough to prove how they are still with us somehow. I'm always wondering if my late cat is wathcing me from heaven or something, even though I'm secular.

Feel for you OP. Lost my dog who I raised from a puppy until her 18th birthday. I had one very good hard cry once I left her remains to be cremated. I sobbed deeply and let it all out. Now, with her urn nearby, I can enjoy memories and the mourning passes. Hang in there and remember their time with you well.
