thanks! it's the original dragon quest on nes btw now I'll play the original final fantasy on nes and compare them because I have nothing better to do lol

maybe you can get mods to make the game a bit more interesting
Anonymous No.82395414

I'm very autistic about playing the games the way they were meant to be played, plus I've never actually played final fantasy 1 so I don't want my first time to be with mods

is this dragon warrior or a fan translated version of dragon quest. if it's the latter then congrats because that game is really grindy

i'm proud of you anon! did you play mother?
what other nes games have you played?
Anonymous No.82395472 >>82395518
>>82395433
uh it's dragon warrior, I don't know if it's fan translated, the site where I got it from didn't say it was, but I mean the dialogue is a bit too good for the time maybe it is fan translated but yeah the game was very very grindy but I find those kinds of games fun strangely enough
>>82395436
I've never played mother, I played a bit of earthbound as a kid though but never got far, as for other nes games, I've played all the megaman games (more times that I can count lol) contra, super C, ninja gaiden 1 and maniac mansion and the castlevania trilogy
oh and of course the classics like the mario games and both zelda games. I've beaten all of those games btw, next nes game I'll play will be shadowgate and final fantasy 1

damn, you have played a bunch of nes games! that's very cool. contra is an amazing game. have you played battletoads? duck tales? river city ransom is pretty cool too
Anonymous No.82395562 >>82395624
>>82395518
yeah, I grew up with a computer that had an nes and snes emulator, I did have the current console at the time (gamecube and ps2) but for some reason I was obsessed with these older games oh and yeah I did play battletoads but I was never able to beat it never played duck tales and I did play and beat river cirty ransom (can't believe I forgot about that one baka) I also played kung fu and blaster master (this one I didn't beat either)
Anonymous No.82395624 >>82395765 >>82395773
>>82395562
that's cool. older games got an atmosphere to them! you should definitely play duck tales though, it's pretty fun. i wish i had a friend to play river city ransom with, but i had no friends as a teenager.
what snes games have you enjoyed the most?
Anonymous No.82395765 >>82395890
>>82395624
yeah river city ransom is pretty though by yourself, snes games I loved the megaman x games and final fantasy 4 (that one's my favorite) final fantasy 5 was pretty good too, I played a lot of harvest moon, the super bomberman games, pacman 2, gradius 3, contra 3, mario world (prefer 3 desu). zelda a link to the past and doremi fantasy (that game is pretty obscure almost nobody knows that game which makes me sad) and probably many more games that I'm forgetting
Anonymous No.82395773
>>82395624
oh yeah! king of dragons was pretty damn good too

aw, you were there in spirit
>>82395824
actually I couldn't beat him and got to level 21, I couldn't tell you how long I had to grind since the entire game is pretty much all grinding lol

Did you use a guide? It's simplistic but I remember there were a few cryptic parts.

Charming game. It's been many years so I want to run through it again, but not sure if I should play the SNES remake. But that doesn't have that fanciful localization and pretty NES graphics.
Anonymous No.82395882
>>82395862
I didn't use a guide, I thought the game did a good job at telling you what to do, I didn't know there was a snes remake! I'll try that one in the future

ohhh, thats cool. i didnt enjoy the megaman x as much, i prefer the classic saga. ff4 was my first rpg ever, i liked it but i hated how the characters just died randomly hahahaha just because there was a new party member coming soon
ff5 is very, very cool. my second favorite ff, after ff6. i loved the whole job system, the plot was kinda generic but the ost was awesome. galufs death is... very sad. poor guy
played all of the games you mentioned, except for doremi fantasy. did you play any of the tales games?
damn i love talking about old games

good job OP
now move on to the sequel, you control 3 heroes in this one

Mother's encounter rates are so tedious. I should have just used the easy ring but I was stubborn to play it as it was originally.

I love pretty much all the megaman series I'm a huge megaman fan lol it's my favorite videogame series next to castlevania, and actually ff5 was my first rpg ever but the first one I beat was 4 the character designer for the older final fantasy games is yoshitaka amano who does the cover art for the vampire hunter D books (I love those too btw) oh as for characters dying all the time in ff4 I didn't mind, plus only 1 actually dies the rest are fine at the end of the game (which I actually hated a bit but at the same time i was glad they were fine) ff5 is my second favorite in the series, I agree that the story was kinda weak but I loved exdeath! and the ost was amazing, yeal not a whole lot of people love about doremi fantasy it's actually a sequel to milon's secret castle but this one is a regular platformer instead of the cryptic mess that was milon's secret castle.
>tales games
no I don't think I've ever heard of them, are they rpgs?
>>82395892
yeah I liked the first game enough to be interested in the sequels but for now I'm trying the original final fantasy on nes, never actually played that one

playing the OG FF1 first is actually a fantastic idea because it will familiarize you with party-based tactics

Level 20 is about the lowest an average player can reliably beat him.

Nice I'm playing the original Zelda on NES

>>82395862
An hd 2d remake is coming soon play that instead
Anonymous No.82396043
>>82395999
well actually I'm familiar with party based rpg's I've played the later final fantasy games before I just really wanted to play the original for a long time but I felt intimidated by nes jrpg's but not anymore after playing dragon's quest/dragon warrior
>>82396017
is there a strategy to beat him at a lower level? or is it all luck?
>>82396034
>Nice I'm playing the original Zelda on NES
I love that game! been meaning to replay the 2d zelda games and also play the ones on gbc for the first time

yeah, megaman is pretty cool. the whole series is actually, but i liked the platforming challenge of the classic saga
and you are right, nobody except for tellah dies in ff4 but they acted as if they did for the most part, the twins dying was just cruel. i absolutely loved the four fiends battle theme, it was so epic holy shit, and rubicant was badass. i didnt know about the guy designing the characters though, ill look into that
exdeath was kinda ruthless, he really was a strong antagonist, and who the hell put that shinryuu chest at the end!?!? i liked ff5s gilgamesh too. dude you have to play ff6 and fuckin chrono trigger, they are awesome. anything with nobuo uematsu is the shit
ill really have to look into doremis castle. are you gonna post a thread tomorrow? i really enjoyed this talk
Anonymous No.82396170 >>82396182 >>82396202
>>82396130
yeah the x games are way easier because of the climbing thing, I think the classics are my favorite too, and ff5 was the first time gilgamesh appeared right? I've played some of chrono trigger but for some reason I didn't beat it, gotta finish it though because I did really liked it.

I might post a thread tomorrow as well, I do post kind of frequently here usually with a king's field gif though lol
I do love talking about retro games too but /vr/ is pretty slow

Gilgamesh first appears in FF5, yeah. I think it's the only time he's actually a character in the story instead of just a cameo.

okay. see you tomorrow then, i am very eepy. thanks for the talk! and like the other anon said, yeah, its his first appearance. night night!!
