Smarter and more creative people who grew up more actively consuming media instead of having it delivered to them, having hobbies, and generally interacting IRL. You needed to know how to search and teach yourself how to do things since there weren't a million articles or videos of how to do things. There wasn't a thought about monetizing or clout which tied back into your real life identity.

Phoneposting was directly responsible for the noticeable decline in quality. This is when the general internet trend of consuming overpowered creation.
