Height works in close tandem with frame, which is underdiscussed. By frame I mean a combination of limb and torso proportions, shoulder width, bone diameter (this is what wrist/ankle and neck circumference and indirectly measure). A bad frame while tall makes you look like a frail lanklet, while a good frame while short can bump up your attractiveness more than you think.
The benefit and primary purpose of muscling up, whether anyone realizes it or not, is to create the illusion of a good skeletal frame.
