If you're serious about this then you need to do some proper research on the tried and true brainwashing techniques used by cult leaders. it's really not as complicated as that. it doesn't come from some misplaced need to reach catharsis from dissatisfaction with the state of my own life. i'm not living in a mansion or anything extravagant like that but i'm actually quite satisfied with the way my life has turned out so far. i'm not driven by anything negative like that, i really just enjoy exerting control over others and want to do so in a way that benefits them as much as me.
