Is this guy right? is gerontocracy the root of all evil?
I stumbled upon this video recently, and i'd like to know robots' opinions on it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJngVZUHS4A
TL;DW: this guy claims that all the problems the west is facing right now are rooted in the fact that old people aren't dying as much as in the past, which allows them to accumulate wealth and create a class of rich pensioners who have an unproportioned amount of influence on our institutions
All the issues we face as a society are thus things that either benefit these rich gerontocrats or doesn't affect them
The high property prices and stock market value benefit them because they're the ones who own them, and the fact that it makes it hard for young people to make a future for themselves and put up a family doesn't concern them
At the same time they want new workers, preferably cheap ones, to pay their pension funds, so they'll be in favor of mass migration from the third world
Old people also tend to value security over freedom unlike young people, so they'll implement policies that are more and more restrictive of freedom as time goes on, such as the surveillance state and the censorship of the internet, and it will eventually culminate in a cashless society
Finally, these gerontocrats will have little restraint in starting wars to maintain the status quo, as the ones being sent to the front line will be young men anyway
And because nobody will ever be elected on a platform of stripping away grandpa's pension there is no way out of this, short of a cataclysmic event that wipes away the older generations (which is why the world went into lockdown for a disease that was really only dangerous to the elderly in 2020) things are only going to get worse
So, what does /r9k/ think of this? are boomers really to blame for everything? discuss
