From what I remember:
>2003-2004
The vibe was basically center-left white nerd with an irreverent "fight club" punk type attitude. Most people were Dawkins type atheists (it wasn't cringe yet), and everything was new so the shittiest memes took off. Most people had GFs and complained about being unable to get a good one. Hatefags and spammers basically ran wild. I remember the speculation on revenge of the sith, and how anons where convinced palatine, Sidious and the emperor were three different characters LOL.

I came back because of the Chris-chan stuff. The vibe by then was "cleverly" insincere "I'm only doing this ironically" attitude. It was politically libertarian but still atheist (mostly). Most people complained about being "friend zoned" by girls. This is probably when 4chan peaked as far as it's influence on internet culture.

Came back because of the election. 4chan by then was far right and there was an under current of seething & bitterness that oozed into everything. 4chan was a dumping ground for people banned from other sites for wrong-think. Basically everyone was pissed all the time and culture became bitter trolls trying to hurt each others feelings by any means possible.

I'm back with Trump winning. The vibe is still conservative but seems to be shifting towards center right as the influence of "relatable chill YT philosophers" has over taken the that of the 2010s always-seething alt-right pundits (like molyneux, sargon, fuentes, shaprio/etc). I think people here are getting sick of outrage culture and want to feel unbothered rather then pissed. That said the sheer number of really ignorant and butt hurt (or insecure) third worlders has exploded, and that actually might be what kills 4chan in the end (no one wants to hang around them).
