Steaming it makes it hit faster and cause less damage to the nose etc. Also makes it last longer as you get more in terms of to rack up with (same weight just finer) From vague memory its 50/50 with water put onto a saucer and pop that on top of a pan of boiling water. if you're going for a specific/fast time, you get a massive boost from running with others and from people spectating. I've run multiple marathons and half marathons and I'm always surprised by the difference it makes. I've done the exact routes on my own and psychologically it is a very different experience. not to mention the practicalities of water/fuel stations.
