I only choose them when they're visually appealing, otherwise it's pointless. When I play a male character I don't pay any attention to them; it's like they don't even exist. Like in Resident Evil 2 (1998) I look at Claire all the time when playing as her. When playing as Leon I only really look at the environment, enemies, items, etc

They happen to be the objectively best characters in the game, or the only realistically viable option for the content within that game.

And this is not by my own choice. I hate games that make the only good characters also be the 'fertile titcows' and make genuinely interesting character designs just play like absolute ass. Give me cool game mechanics, not shill yourself out to make titcows.
