Essentially, if you measure the 1930s left to the 1960s, the 1930s left would consider the 60s to be extreme leftism. Comparing the 60s to the 90s, again, the 60s left would consider the 90s left to be extremist. And again, the 90s to the 2010s, the 90s would consider the 2010s to be extreme. And so on. The left from each later period would consider preceding leftists to be FAR RIGHT radicals, whereas the preceding leftists would still be able to recognize their future as leftists.
However, the right from each preceding 30 years would consider the future rightists to be far left. 60s rightists wanted an end to miscgenation, (somtimes) deportation of negroes, outlaw of sodomy, etc. while the 90s right believed racism bad, interracial marriag is fine, that gays can exist but should be forced into therapy, and in the 2010s, that they're free to do whatever but not have marriage.
Trump isn't right wing because the right is just the previous leftism.

If you say that, the majority of democrat leftists are just afraid of fascism. The core animus of the modern left is not the random mostly moderate people that vote for practical reasons, same as the right.
