I joined when I was 13 to roleplay with my nerd friends after our message board got shut down
8 years later I rotate between gacha game servers, diaper kink servers, and far right extremist servers

Not sure if I turned out like this because of being on discord or if I ended up on discord because I was always like this

i joined some servers from disboard and everyone was either 15 or extremely weird adults. it has such a strange energy idk. i just use it for /soc/ servers and i jerked off on call with a /soc/ girl once (picrel)

in hindsight i actually wish i used it instead of exclusively 4chan i think anonposting has destroyed my sense of self and it wouldnbe nice to have some online friends

Just before the pandemic, the app had a "vulnerability" where it would attempt to download the entire server's contents when you join it, and continuously after, before you even got to review the contents. Back then, I joined a server advertising itself as "sewing for reenactors and cosplayers", and for a while it was actually a good server where the users helped each other on their sewing projects. Then suddenly one day the admin added a channel for posting bomb making instructions and uploaded several gigabytes of probable cause material to be sent to the entire server. This was at the height of the boogaloo scare back then. Lucky for me, I was using a VPN and the browser version so nothing touched my disk, but some friends of mine weren't so lucky. I've heard similar horror stories where it was CP instead of bomb making info.

I still don't know if it was a fed or simply a deranged discord tranny like the kind you see in Com nowadays. Discord, not even once.

Met a girl on there, even bought her a game on steam. We really hit it off, talked for nearly six months then we talked about age. I am 25 and she was "18." Stopped talking to her instantly. i installed it to join a r9k server, folk came and went, but 6 individuals stayed, eventually we decided to just stop letting more people in, its been 6 years and those friends i made were the only reason why i didnt an hero
am very very glad it happened, tho its a bittersweet feeling now, since they lives got better so they stopped coming around for talks

I used to shitpost in silly /r9k/ Skype groups back in 2013-2015 and when everyone switched to Discord I also made the jump
All in all, I can't tell if I liked Skype more for anything more than I just liked being online more when I was younger but I do notice that the random 20-somethings from here now seem a lot more performatively hostile than anybody I posted with was at that age 10 years ago.

I joined an r9k server, lots of people shuffled through the friends list, but 6 of them braved the defeat. That was 6 years ago, and is one of the reasons why I havent commit suicide yet. Although many of those guys have ascended, and are living fulfilling lives with gfs and cars now. I did not manage to get a car.

Visited a r9k server once. It was cool to join vc but not talk. I just listened to a few people get together and talk. It made me feel like I had friends(as pathetic as that sounds). I don't think that I'll ever actually participate. People are too complicated and weird to me. Thanks for being there though. People watching makes me feel less alone.

everyone i talk to goes away in the end so either im not their actual "friend" or im just so insufferable. probably both. nowadays i only use it for asking about niche game questions or quick play in niche games with randoms. its been a year since i spoke to what i would consider one of my "real" friends on there and thats because i wished him a happy new year. using it every day is mental illness unless its with actual friends or people you know irl.

here and there, good and bad. I met new people who I felt I had more in common with and a better connection with most people I meet irl - it is easier to find people like this in discord servers or on 4chan.
Although most of these so called friendships dont last, they usually have a half life of 6 months to a year. And I have met a few sexual predators on discord, as I am quite naive, including a man who let me live with him who ended up molesting me and another man who pretended to be a woman and I found this out in the worst way possible because Im retarded.
Its chill but dont think for a second your discord friends are actual friends. Meeting them in real life, which I have done 3 times (or 4, technically), is a different experience from meeting them online.
So, 1 on 1 friendships on discord have been cool, or a little friend group. Id say most discord servers are kinda toxic and this is largely due to the presence of teenage girls or girls in their 20s, and the combination of them loving drama and being disconnected from the damage they are doing by not being there in person, as well as their armies of simps.
Its cool for video chatting with old friends, and I have, through texting people in servers, been able to find housing and a job, although I also ended up living with a violent fugitive for a few months who tried to kill me, too.
