Scientology will ask you to pay for their services, Soka Gakkai never asks you for donations. Also it's based on the teachings of Nichiren buddhism, not some made up new age ufology cult.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but every major religious and cultural institution is involved in some scandals. Humans aren't perfect, and a bunch of bad events in the history of the movement doesn't invalidate the teachings, nor does it invalidate their charity work for countries which were ruined by natural disasters.
