I know why. It's because they're afraid of death. They idolize youth and purity as a shield from it. They're eternal children, forever trying to escape the ever encroaching clock of mortality, running from their own fears, until they are eventually consumed. Transformation.

In order for them to have sex, they must die. Not literally. But symbolically. But a symbolic death is not too far off a literal death. When a boy matures to a man, the boy dies.

But, the fear of death prevents that transformation from ever happening. So they are stuck in a perpetual loop of anxiety and fear. Taking every step to avoid all the stimulus that trigger their fears, namely, women. Ultimately avoiding the thing they desire.
