If its a competitive game or a game of high skill. It seems to be that its sort of hijacking our competitive or warlike energy via the game design.
There are games that many perceive to be entirely "skill based" which are not.
Even games that are extremely skill based often require some sort of nonsense strategy to undercut the enjoyable competitive aspects of a game.
Youll notice if you play a game like monopoly or mario kart you become more enraged or dis-interested in the game its likely because you wan't something competitive out of the moment.
games are easy to pick up and start that sort of engagement with people or in a single player environment.
but most games designed now by their nature to try and include as many buyers as possible lean more towards being designed like mario kart.
Even if the entire competitive scene of said games desperately tries to defend that it actually is a game of very high skill. Do not let their need to inflate their ego cloud that, they will cheat if necessary to win, for them its not about competition a lot of the time or enjoyment of the game.
So what can we do about this? well if you realize the problem you can move on to healthier competitive environments like sports, martial arts or anything else. Those games are relatively simple and do not involve a 10% chance for your opponent to get a free throw / free hit on you.
Or a subversion of established rules and conventions.
I have realized that the game I had played since 2011 that was deemed "the hardest game ever, so high skill ectect" was nothing more than a series of knowledge checks, and coin flips. the game itself devolves into absolute nonsense at the highest level. And even more unsatisfying is the lack of equally skilled opponents at higher levels.
Unfortunately for me, I'm an indie game dev so I have to stay in my lane here, anyone else I suggest moving on to more fruitful pursuits.
