Alcohol lowers your inhibitions. It throws a wet blanket over the higher functions of your brain. Such as, for example, the parts that worry about what other people think of you. In other words, you got to see your friend/crush/etc as he really is, as opposed to how his logical Spock brain might want to present himself to you. People who have major hang-ups in that area and want to self-medicate tend to turn to alcohol, since it's the easiest thing to get ahold of.

I'm not an alcoholic and i've never tried any illicit drugs.
But i also rarely talk to females so maybe being an alcoholic makes them more outgoing and willing to talk to random women more.
