Why do people leave suicide notes? I don't understand the rationale.

I read somewhere that most suicide victims don't actually leave notes, they just go through with it without saying a word. That's not to say that there aren't any signs of their despair, just that most don't bother with writing a note. That's just something that happens in films.

Depends what's on the note, but usually for the same reason they committed suicide - to be acknowledged and pitied.
