What's the truth about how good AI is?
I spent 3 years coding my own social media platform and a couple of smart IT guys told me an AI could've pooped out a similar site.
I don't think it's possible. Even if it was, I wouldn't want to do it because it's less fun, but I legit don't think it's even possible because there are so many minute details that the AI can't just guess.
I'm sure it could give me some generic template of a PHP forum that sends stuff into the database and fetches something back, but if you want a real social media site, every line needs to be thought out and planned.
I mean, you can still claim AI can make whatever you want it to make, but even IF that was the case, you'd need to explain to it what you want, and it's just faster to code it yourself.
For example, if you tell AI "I want rounded edges for this div", it's just faster to code "border-radius:6px;"
At some point I don't think it makes sense to even use AI because coding is the fastest way to "prompt" lol

I don't really think so, it's too competitive and data is too valuable. Any service that actively hammers ads will get supplanted by one that doesn't. The very top of the line models will be paid services. A contributing factor to this is the overvaluation of the whole industry which Altman himself has acknowledged. Random ass people don't give a shit about an AI that thinks longe for a better answer or whatever. They want to ask it to clean up this email, or write a heartfelt message to grandma which any AI can do right now. The cutting edge AI of big data analysis, or very accurate detailed responses will be paid for, by gov, businesses or individuals.

Back to my first point, data is important. REAL data from humans. A huge issue with AI is the way it poisons data sets with hallucinations and general truckloads of slop. There is no point in Ai if there aren't real humans engaging in the content. Putting in roadblock sin the for of ridiculous ads and subscriptions is detrimental to this. Instead AI will be the insidious thing lurking in the brackground of everything we do, every app we use and everything interaction we have.
