music can set my mood to different tones depending on the song
it can calm me down, hype me up, make me depressed or see the joy in life again
but it can also remind me of certain events, people, or things, sometimes for no good reason (often times really)

why is it negative? daydreaming isn't so bad.

pretty crazy how powerful some sounds with rythm can be. they can remind you of better times, of worse times, they can evoke such strong feelings

allow me to waste my time.
imagine a scenario: the time has come to say goodbye to someone very near and dear to you. perhaps they're relocating, dying, etc
>intro fond memories together while despair grows knowing things will end soon
>4:10 one last hurrah together before it's over
>6:30 you can't stop thinking about the end
>8:40 you hatch a plan, maybe you can fix this, but you have to try hard
>11:45 trying hard AF
>12:15 fuck, this plan probably isn't going to work
>13:20 no, there's still an almost impossible chance
>14:00 acceptance, this is absolutely the end. time to let go, ready or not

idk this song gets to me. possibly unlistenable for some

It can make me feel all sorts of things of course, that's the powerful thing about it. But usually I guess it makes me feel some sort of sublimity or profundity, if those are the right words for it. It's like it breathes magic into life for just a little bit and everything starts to feel like it has meaning and purpose. When I feel like that it makes me want to do *something*, but I have no idea what... so I usually just end up wasting these moments I guess. Oh well.

>how does it impact your life?
Hard to say, but I'd imagine it's probably changed the course of my life slightly at least because of the aforementioned moments. Sometimes when I'm feeling like that I rethink certain things about my life and end up making different decisions than I otherwise would, I think.

the real world is shit anyway, better to just drift off in some other place if you're able to.

i guess i feel similarly. it gives my otherwise very dull and pointless life some soundtrack that makes it ever slightly more meaningful
>changed the course of my life slightly
it definitely influenced a lot of the choices i made in my life too. i wonder where i would be if music was never in my life

Does it always work for you like that, a constant but slight boost to life's meaning and whatnot? Or is it more like occasionally it will do that but most of the time it's just something to occupy your brain with?

>influenced a lot of the choices i made
Any examples? Other than playing guitar and being alive in general, which I guess are the obvious ones here.

>just something to occupy your brain with?
probably this i guess. i need to focus on the music in order to "feel" it properly so most of the time when im putting it on while i do something else it's just to keep thoughts from forming.
>Any examples?
my mood, and therefore the things i say, are heavily influenced by music. so if im talking with someone, and listening to cheerful music, im more prone to say cheerful stuff. same with sad music. it makes me say stuff usually i wouldn't say. some conversations could've gone completely differently, if i was listening to more cheerful things.
>>82813112
i guess the real world isn't bad for 1% of the time. anyhow i hope you can find a new friend group to be happy with eventually.
>>82813353
good song, i liked it. i love breakcore but i've basically only listened to it while feeling like dying so it evokes bad feelings. still here's a song i like right back

>i need to focus on the music in order to "feel" it properly
Yeah, me too. Most of the time I listen to songs that are only somewhat good and so it'd be a bit boring to focus on them fully, so I'm kind of relegated to just listening to them in the background. But even if I am fully focused on the music sometimes it just doesn't do much for me, I guess I have to already be in a sort of "suggestible" mood to begin with for it to really influence me. But often times I just feel blank, and nothing seems to be able to budge that feeling.

>things i say
I see, wouldn't have thought of that but I suppose that does make sense. It's a not a huge thing but it definitely changes how some conversations could have gone. I wish I could be in that profound mood more often because I think it makes conversations more interesting for me, but sadly it's pretty rare. Do you always find sad music sad, and cheerful music cheerful? Sometimes I feel like I'm listening to what's supposed to be a cheerful song, but it makes me sad for some reason. Not sure if it ever happens the other way around though.

i know this is a avatar "way of the fish type way" type thread, but i will answer the question in the op because i love listening to music

first i will philosophize about music a bit, then answer the question

music is a uniquely human phenomena. no other animal makes it. not birds or whales or anyone, only humans. ai scientists argue its because once you move pass a certain intelligence threshold, some previously unintelligible things because obvious, like mathematics, or the use of written language. music is one such thing. its kind of frightening and wonderful to think that there are OTHER things like music or math that exist that humans arent intelligent enough to understand, but as just as real

anywho, music makes you feel the emotions of the song, obviously. pride, glory, ecstatic, romance, passion, hate, sadness. music is so wonderful

for me it helps me cope with pain and makes me feel good in general. i listen to music everyday for hours

lately ive caught the violin bug. ive been listening to a lot of violin, and i also bought one off ebay and just learning the basics. i like it a lot

feeling blank is not too bad sometimes
>Do you always find sad music sad, and cheerful music cheerful?
i guess? there are some songs that have an ambiguous feeling to me. but i guess sometimes i feel so bad that not even a cheerful songs feel cheerful
>>82813889
>i know this is a avatar "way of the fish type way" type thread
not really i just wanted to know how others feel about music
>once you move pass a certain intelligence threshold
hm, i wonder if with enough time animals could've started making some kind of music. i would argue the mating calls of birds could be music
>i listen to music everyday for hours
same, it's basically always on, it's a huge part of me. i liked the songs you posted, and good luck with the violin.

>feeling blank is not too bad sometimes
True, it's better than feeling intensely sorrowful and the like. But I wouldn't take it over feeling like a medium level of sadness or so. At least that makes you feel like you're alive, whilst feeling nothing like this makes everything seem so pointless and hollow. I hate it.

>there are some songs that have an ambiguous feeling to me.
Those are indeed a thing too. That breakcore song you posted is actually one I'd classify as that, I can kind of see it both as a chill song and a gloomy and forlorn one at the same time, depending on what you want to see it as. But for me there's some songs that I'm pretty sure are supposed to be definitively cheerful yet they still make me sad, even if I wasn't particularly sad before. Weird how that works.

What have you been listening to lately?

overrated feeling if you ask me. but i guess i see where you're coming from. i struggle to feel anything when something good happens and it makes me feel like im broken.

Man I remember when Walnut's banner premiered people lost their damn minds.
Anyway to answer your question OP I like this very specific kind of music that seems to have disappeared with the end of the 90s where the beat is happy but the melody is sad.

Depends entirely on the genre. Most of my music is about hope, romance and loss and feels me with a deep sense of peace.

>overrated feeling if you ask me.
Yeah I can imagine it is if you are too deep in your feelings most of the time. Maybe feeling a little dead isn't so bad in that case. Though as you said, what I hate most as well is how often I just feel nothing when something good happens. That's really frustrating, it's like everything is going well so why do I still hate my life.

>which ones?
I wasn't really thinking of any in particular, but the first couple I can think of are these ones I guess:
https://files.catbox.moe/sjuxqh.mp3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqHpZbUyUO4
Although in this case I think I know why they make me cry, it's because they make me nostalgic for all the good times in my life.

>also here's another one i like
lole, goreshit is quite the name. But it's pretty good, I liked it! Thanks for sharing.
