Are you from a non-costal city in America? Because you're definitely a weird kid if you're not forced to go to church growing up.

That's a good point about secularism but a lot of moralty these people derived was being forced into that upbringing. They understand how it's conducted in the community they were raised in and they don't realize a church a town over does things differently but they were taught to conform enough or were considered something of an outsider.

It's really not that simple. There are a lot of ways to interpret the bible and some places have different ones than others. It's part of the reason why I've always leaned towards catholicism they have the longest running amount of scholars and research along with collections going back to study this stuff a bit more difinitively than other "branches" or sects. Some of them are just built off an excuse for polygamy and use it as a schism to fuel their political ambitions or coffers and then use it as a cudgel for that purpose and getting rid of people that don't conform enough. Not that politics tends to use other metrics when that fails a lot of people are just looking to fit in somewhere and once they find that place their natural enemies are part of the whack-a-mole cudgel game and they're so much moral and understand it all better than anyone else. I mean I've seen churches organize giving out food to the needy regardless of anything some person some pride flying commie would call a dumb hick volunteering through a church to give out free food to whoever needs it 3 times a week while the commie sits around bitching Jesus would have been a democrat if I believed in God and they follow Jesus' teachings better than anyone else.
