that's super common for early forts. eventually you'll have too many concurrent responsibilities for that one dwarf, and you can spread the role among less talented dwarves. it doesn't really matter as long as you're making booze

the controls are pretty bad, you could go and pirate the steam version and see if that makes it any easier since you don't have to learn what a bunch of ascii symbols mean
plus it's been mouse controls since .50 i think

that's a learning process, the game is not very hard or balanced, it just a very elaborate simulator

there button with the purple dwarf icon should let you reappoint them
besides, do you need a messenger if you don't even have a manager or a bookkeeper?
