i mean we had a national discussion on the subject, and it turns out that the spokespeople for this identity movement are hilariously cringe and dysfunctional lunatics. all politics aside, if your most prominent representatives cannot actually function in society you're going to feel ashamed to be associated with them.
it took time though. A lot of well-meaning people want to be sympathetic allies to marginalized groups, but the truth is there just aren't that many people who have genuine dysphoria.
i also think that a lot of young men, especially the STEM brained late bloomer archetype, don't feel confident in traditional masculinity. How are you supposed to look at the role models in your life, who have careers that are no longer accessible, in homes you can't afford, providing for families that you can't even begin to understand the path towards building because of how FUCKED the economy has gotten. of course these dudes don't "feel" like real men, but that don't mean they're women. it means that being a man is in flux same as it has always been throughout history
