I don't understand why they don't love their culture, their country, their language. Not too hard, in my humble opinion, it's just that the school system of my country made it feel like a chore and completely failed to make me interested in learning it.
I dedicated myself to English instead and now I'm pretty much native (except for my god forsaken accent), while half of my family can speak german either fluently or conversationally.
I like how German sounds and it's really not that hard grammatically (since we also have grammatical cases), but it does go to show that if you force a kid into learning something, they sure as hell won't want to.
